THE END
Log-Line:
Asif struggling with amnesia, unable to remember most of his life, receives a parcel. The parcel contains answers to his most desireful questions about himself.
Synopsis:
The story talks about a man named Asif, who has amnesia and therefore he has no recollection of his past. He lives alone in his house and struggles to recall his memories. However, one day he receives a parcel that helps him reconnect with his shattered past.
In the film, Asif seems to be disturbed with no recollection of his memories, when suddenly a delivery guy brings him a parcel that he reluctantly refuses to take as he has no memory of the mentioned name on the parcel.
Out of curiosity he opens the parcel, to his surprise he finds a mobile phone. In which he finds his brother Ahmed’s final recording for Asif. Later we see him to be struggling with the hallucinations of his brother roaming around the house.
Theme Selection:
For the thematic experience I selected Fields and Frames, as it created the closer aesthetically and visually pleasing outlook of the film. The story that I wanted to convey was through various emotional/mental states of turmoil of our main character. Because I wanted to create a rigid boundary around the character.
The aspect of amnesia created an impact of isolation and condensed emotions for the character, as the story had no other character except for Asif. A health issue creating real-time complications for a person can throw one into self-harm and exile kind of situation.
To create a sense of disbelief in his life and in his surroundings the constrained frames and boundaries of walls created hollowness. The character could be seen moving in the house or in the backyard but still he seems to find himself isolated from rest of the world.
Premise:
A lonely person, getting out of coma, experiencing amnesia has cost him to lose his sensibility and his memories seem to vanish. Hallucinations troubling his mind with his dead brother’s visual presence around him.
Background:
Looking at the increased rate of mental health discussions in society, I wanted to explore a new aspect of looking at the cause and effect of such diseases as they become uncontrollable for people and how they end up losing their sensibility. Amnesia took my interest suddenly when I was reading and researching on the mental health problems, because this particular disease makes you forget things, sometimes temporarily, other times permanently.
The idea of creating a conflict with mental and physical being helped in the development of this idea. Because looking at a person struggle for just his own sense of identity, becomes suffocating and can cause life-long troubles that may seem useless but the one who witnesses that could never recover from that traumatic experience of never being able to understand themselves and might end up living in the momentum of self-centered and constructed nexus of reality for themselves.
Approach:
I wanted to approach the story from a psychological/drama perspective. As I wanted to create an atmosphere of claustrophobic feelings for the character’s mindset and his environment but I also wanted to keep the feeling of demise revealing later on to be able to sympathize with him as well.
Keeping the pacing of the film at ease and with the use of on the face heightened music would be able to give an in-depth experience into the character’s surroundings.
Setting:
The entire film is supposedly set inside a house, Asif (our main character) moves around the house in hall and then the outdoor location is in his backyard where he hallucinates about his brother Ahmed. So, the entire outlook of the film is set indoor except for 2-3 outdoor scenes.
This house is in well-organized condition which as a whole doesn’t suit our character’s state of mind but doing so creates a sense of uncanny feelings and murkiness in the atmosphere, as everything around Asif seems to be pretty much normal except for his own self.
Targeted Audience:
Audience target is not limited to any age group as this film doesn’t contain any age restricted content but specifying the target would include people 18 and above, as the film has expressions that are well understood by people who have a better understanding of psychological aspects of a human being.
With this assertion, I am also considering people from Pakistan as well as from international communities, as the film as a generalized overview of a disease and a dramatic aspect of sympathy mostly that becomes relatable for most of the people who are either suffering from any kind of mental illness or going through a post-traumatic experience.
Dissemination:
Film will be discussed with fellow-filmmakers before screening it anywhere. Depending on the feedback from the fellows will give proper insight into the betterment of the film’s entire experience. Then later it will be privately test-screened for audience that may help with improvements in editing techniques with addition or removing of any scene/shot, if seems necessary.
Then later on the film will get a screening specifically for the audience that it is targeting in order to get a foolproof review of the film thoroughly. It will provide constructive criticism that will help in assessing the films credibility. This process will help in creating a final cut of the film that will be screened, uploaded and shared across the social media/streaming platforms.

Director’s Note:
Personally, I believe every individual has a vision of making films that leave an everlasting occurrence to one’s whole embodiment. The type of films that leave a mark on your entire being, are the films that supposedly create a difference in the human behavior and existence. For me, the characters that are represented on the screen are there to mirror the society they live in, the surroundings that texturize their patterns and mannerism of life.
The impact film has on an audience depends on the credibility of the social structures that it is able to shake to its core. Significantly the amount of effort invested in creating cinema requires patience and understanding of the world-view in our atmospheric surroundings. I hope the kind of films that are made should leave this formulative approach and hold onto something that explores the nuances.
Motivation:
Making films take a lot from you, both mentally and physically as well as financially but I think with the making of this all, it’s not the product that matters, it’s the process that you go through in order to achieve your desired piece of work.
Working within diverse set of genres, is the real challenge but with that you get a borderless understanding of the cinema in itself. That sheer dedication of creating is what should be attained necessarily rather than trying to create a balance between what’s good and what’s bad.
Treatment:
The treatment of this film is based on the outlook of a person struggling with amnesia and long-term memory loss. The narrative of the story is being looked from the perspective of a suffering human being with all of that in mind, the mise en scene of the film is entirely on disorientation. The obnoxious world-view through a struggling patient’s life seems to be messed up on an internal as well as on the external level.
So, the entire film is supposed to be mangled and filled with clue-less details in the beginning but over the course of entire film it reveals itself, as if something estranged is getting its catharsis or maybe moving towards another enlightenment.
Visual Treatment:
The visual treatment of the film is unusual, abrupt and confused cinematography from a visual aspect. As the film presented to the audience is from the point of view of an amnesia patient so that loss of memory and everything around him would be disoriented and out of order. The colors of the film and the world are supposedly going to be desaturated and not so vibrant. The lighting of the film is going to be kept low-key in order to build the tension through the audience’s mind.
*Color’s reference from various films, creating the tonality is someway like this.
Audio/Sound Treatment:
From the audio’s perspective, the film is going to feature suspenseful background music in order to keep the tense environment around our main character condensed and claustrophobic. The music might fluctuate throughout the film but it would end on a soothing and calmer note as our character meets a fulfilling yet incomplete end or a new beginning to his life.
Risk Assessment:
As per the things considered the story is relatively short and is confined to just one space, so that might not cause much of any trouble. But with challenge comes a risk, in that case we’re looking forward to deal with everything on-set calmly, without getting aggressive about everything, if it is out of order. There could be technical or physical occurrences then there would be a plan B type of thing ready to assess the risk management.
With all the project being shot, we are hopeful of the fact that we can achieve our desired goal if we remain resilient and determined hustling for it. In the meantime, we are going to be trying to keep the shoot concise and friendly. So, with everyone’s availability there should be a lesser risk of accidents happening until and unless there is a trouble that is halting or could affect the value of the project.

RESEARCH: (Initial reference material and sources) | ||||||
| ||||||
CONTEXTUAL UNDERSTANDING (How the work relates to your future goals, previous work, work by other practitioners and so on)
This short film will act as a building block in my path to become a successful director. It gave me the confidence to trust my instincts and test my adaptability by exploring different genres that I have been reluctant to pursue. The use of various camera angles, lights, effects and locations to capture the pure raw emotions of the characters in this emotional story was enlightening and quite different than my previous work. It was essential to conduct prior research on this topic and view the work of other directors to gain a better understanding about direction, narration, camera angles, lights & sound etc. while creating a point of reference for ourselves.
| ||||||
TECHNICAL AND CREATIVE SKILLS (Propose specialisms, resources required, relate to the above)
This work required the use of professional actors, light technician, sound technician, make-up artist, and camera operator/director
| ||||||
COMMUNICATION (How you will communicate with the staff team and collaborators/How the work communicates with an audience, crowd funding, dissemination etc)
I will listen actively, ill speak with discretion and talk face to face, my work will always have a clear and concise message that can easily communicate to my targeted audience then we reach out to crowd of individual’s who can collectively provide us with the necessary amount to fund. I am also considering people from Pakistan as well as from international communities, as the film as a generalized overview of a disease and a dramatic aspect of sympathy mostly that becomes relatable for most of the people who are either suffering from any kind of mental illness or going through a post-traumatic experience.
| ||||||
SELF MANAGEMENT (Work plan, schedule cross referenced with timetable, assessment deadlines etc)
We finalized script , documentation , sourcing funds , equipment checklist. Along with that I made sure for our casting and crew were on board location scouting, equipment’s and permissions if necessary Then next day I conducted the entire shoot on it was done, it went in a process on editing, sound , colour grade and vfx as according to my deadline which was 29 I had to submit everything
